We supply air brake parts for trucks, trailers, buses, and coaches including: compressors, air dryers, control valves, protection valves, regulators, actuators, disc brakes, ABS, EBS, ASR, ECAS, ECU, wheel sensors, exciter rings, and ABS diagnostic tools. The modern air brake system The evolution of the modern commercial vehicle, operating at higher speeds and with increased gross weight, on roads which in recent years have become heavily congested, has necessitated the move to more advanced braking systems. At the same time, fleet operators demands have also had to be met, in terms of longer intervals between services, reduced maintenance costs, better performance and increased safety. The result has been the development of the modern air brake system, combining a pneumatically operated disc brake with appropriate brake actuator. At Drakefield we can supply all the constituent parts of a modern air brake system, including: compressors, air dryers, control valves, protection valves, regulators, actuators, disc brakes, ECU, wheel sensors, and exciter rings, to fit all makes and models of truck, trailer, bus and coach. The modern electronic brake system (EBS) The modern Electronic Brake System (EBS), combines antilock braking control (ABS), and traction control (ASR), into a single configurable system. However, unlike ABS, the purpose of which is to prevent wheel lock during braking, ASR operates to ensure optimum traction to all drive wheels, at all times, irrespective of road conditions. ASR does this by reducing engine power, until the torque from the engine no longer exceeds the road grip of the tyres. Advantages of EBS The key advantages of EBS are: - It reduces the number of brake system components by up to 50%
- Requires fewer pneumatic connections
- Involves lower installation costs
- And by virtue of the extremely rapid response time provided by the electronic controls, crucially shortens braking distances
Furthermore, its modular design ensures that EBS can be installed in a wide variety of different vehicle models and is provided with an open interface, enabling easy link-up to electronic vehicle management and other systems from individual commercial vehicle manufacturers. At Drakefield we can supply all the constituent parts of an electronic brake system (EBS), and, because of our status as authorised UK dealers for Wabco, Haldex, and Knorr Bremse, you can rest assured that any part we supply comes with a full technical and after sales warranty from the manufacturer concerned. At the forefront of technological change Our philosophy at Drakefield is to be at the forefront of technological change, for as the complexity of electronic vehicle systems grows, so the nature of diagnosing problems and delivering solutions must likewise adapt. We are, therefore, proud to be able offer diagnostic services to customers, along with other specialist manual facilities to test air brake components, that are not generally available elsewhere in the industry, including comprehensive free online help to identify and resolve common ABS (Antilock Braking System) faults on trucks, trailers, buses and coaches via our website at www.abstroubleshooting.com. For a list of parts we supply, please refer to the foot of this page. How to contact us At Drakefield, we welcome customer feedback. Therefore, if you have any comments or suggestions, or require additional help or information, please get in touch. You will find full details, including our opening hours on the Contact us page. Please note that if you contact us by email, allow 24 hours for a response, unless it is a weekend, in which case we will respond the next working day. |
